Three months after releasing I Am The One, which is a cover for YG Marley’s Praise Jah In The Moonlight, Miami-based singer Ms Destiny, aka 6ixGal, says she is pleased with the support that the song has received so far.
The soul-touching single currently sits at number eight on Rebel Vibez’ Top 10 Reggae Music Countdown chart in Canada as of the week October 21.
I Am The One, produced by the songbird at Grammy-winning Dmoet’s studio in New York, is also doing well in key spaces in the US and Caribbean.
Ms Destiny, who released the track on July 20 this year, said she was grateful for its progress.
“It (the song) was from a recent relationship I had and I felt that I loved him and gave him my all as many of us women do, and we are still not appreciated. So I wanted to inspire other women to let them know they are not alone, and it is not their fault. So I am really happy that the song is getting the love because it carries a deep meaning,” she said.
A music video for the song, which was directed by her, is also doing well across various media platforms.
The positivity surrounding the song has given Ms Destiny an oomph and further belief in her musical prowess.
She is currently in studios working on another track, titled St Bess, which will be a collaborative effort talking about the love for her home parish of St Elizabeth.
And, as her career continues to rise steadily, Ms Destiny says she will continue to use her music to champion for women who has experienced, or is experiencing similar issues.
“I feel I have a lot of male fans and I want to connect more with women and I wish us women would support more female reggae artistes. Many women hurt in relationships as I have recently and my music and God helps me thorough break ups. I want to continue to help women because dating is horrible,” she said.
