KINGSTON, Jamaica — September 20, 2026 — Police are maintaining an increased security presence in sections of West Kingston following the fatal shooting of a 26-year-old man during an alleged confrontation with officers in Denham Town, an incident that was followed by protests and reported threats against police.
The Jamaica Constabulary Force identified the deceased as Amani Malcolm, otherwise called “Bling Dawg,” of Denham Town.
According to the JCF, the incident occurred at approximately 10:40 p.m. on Friday, September 18, near the intersection of North Street and Pink Lane.
Police Give Preliminary Account of Shooting
The JCF says officers conducting a mobile patrol encountered Malcolm and that an armed confrontation allegedly developed.
Police allege that Malcolm produced a firearm and pointed it at an officer. According to the police account, the incident developed into a physical struggle involving an officer’s service weapon.
Malcolm was subsequently shot and transported to Kingston Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police reported recovering a Glock 26 pistol containing five 9mm rounds. A bystander was also injured during the incident and taken to hospital.

Protests Follow Shooting
Malcolm’s death was followed by unrest in the community.
According to police and local reporting, residents gathered in protest and fires were lit, including an immobilised vehicle along North Street.

Police are also investigating a separate allegation that a man who refused to participate in the protest was assaulted and set on fire. He was reportedly hospitalized.
That allegation remains under investigation.
