Likkle Wayne is a Jamaican reggae and dancehall artist whose life and career are shaped by the golden era of sound system culture and unwavering dedication to authentic music.
Artist Bio
Growing up in Sav-la-Mar, Westmoreland, Jamaica, Likkle Wayne discovered his musical passion at just 10 years old, immersed in the vibrant sound system scene. At age 12, he won hearts with his first public performance—a Sister Nancy “Bam Bam” mimic—receiving enthusiastic support from his local community. By age 14, he was making history: winning the JCDC Festival DJ Competition in Westmoreland, representing his parish in the National Finals at Kingston’s National Arena, and competing alongside future legends like Professor Nuts and Tony Rebel. Finishing 4th overall, he toured Jamaica with renowned contestants including Roy Rayon.
These early achievements gave Likkle Wayne access to important stages and introduced him to a network of rising stars. He performed in Negril with talents like Yami Bolo, White Mice, Little Kirk, and Little Chucky, later joining the African Symbol Sound System—sharing mics with icons such as Admiral Bailey, Lady G, Lt. Stitchie, and Papa San. At 17, he released his debut single, “Concord Money,” on vinyl through Wild Geese Production, followed soon by a festival hit, “Let Off Suppem,” with Chicken Chest. This track featured at Rebel Salute, then known as Roll Call ‘87.
New Chapter in Canada
Likkle Wayne toured Canada in the late 1980s and eventually set roots in Toronto where he performed and collaborated with artists like Bobby Zarro, Karla Marshall, Lady Saw, Tony Curtis, and Pad Anthony. Collaborations included a notable track with Prince Everald, “Someone Loves You Honey,” further cementing his place in the Canadian reggae scene. Later, he relocated to Montreal to focus on family, briefly pausing his music career.
